If negative emotions arise
Whatever emotions you feel, allow them to be felt. Give them permission to come and go. Always give your emotions time and space and allow them to be there: feel them.
The few seconds or minutes it takes to fully feel them, do allow them to be released - so let them be felt fully - even if you don't want to feel that way.
By feeling whatever emotions naturally arise in you, you are allowing those emotions to pass through and leave you alone - they will subside suprisingly quickly, leave your body and mind at peace once they are gone.
If it helps, try the following:
- breathe into the emotion: visualise it getting strong initially and then being released more and more with each out breath. A handful of breaths later, you will feel at peace;
- write down your feelings. Write them down with the purpose of releasing the negative in order to let go of it and arrive at a place of peace.
Arriving at peace will happen, even if you feel full of anger, rage, sadness, loneliness, or any other negative feeling. Simply feel the emotion, express any sentiments that you may need to express, until there is nothing left to express. Then wait for peace, joy, love to return to you.
If no particular feelings arise
Food for thought...
"Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned."
